Bottom line: request documents that match the exact product model you are buying – not a generic certificate image. A solid document set covers the product specification, material and safety documents applicable to that product, inspection and packing evidence, and the paperwork your destination market expects at import. No single certificate applies to every inflatable, so check each document against the model, the blower and the exporting company.
1. Product-specific documents: match the model, not the brand
Certificates and test reports are issued for specific products, standards and companies. Before you accept any document, check that it names the model you are ordering, the manufacturer or exporting company, and the relevant standard or test. A certificate for another product line – or a document that only shows a logo – proves nothing about the unit in your order. Ask which standards apply to the inflatable itself, to the blower and to the materials; they are often covered by different documents.
2. Material and specification documents
A written specification sheet should give the model, inflated dimensions, PVC material and thickness, reinforcement points, blower specification, included accessories and packaging. For materials, ask for the relevant test reports – for example tensile strength, flame retardancy or coating weight – and confirm that the numbers on the report match the material used in production. If the supplier claims compliance with a standard, ask which document proves it and request a readable copy.
3. Inspection and packing evidence
Commercial inflatables are shipped folded, and defects found after arrival are expensive to fix. Request pre-shipment inspection results, inflation test records, and photos or videos of the actual units before packing. Confirm the packing list: carton or woven bag, spare parts, repair kit, blower, anchors, carry bag and user manual. Ask about shipping marks and labelling so the shipment is easy to identify at the port.
4. Destination market requirements
Requirements depend on where the equipment will be sold and used. In Europe, standards such as EN 14960 apply to inflatable play equipment; in the US market, ASTM standards for commercial inflatable amusement devices are commonly referenced; and blowers or electrical components may need separate electrical documentation, such as CE-related paperwork. Import may also require a commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading and, in some countries, a certificate of origin. Confirm which documents your market actually requires – ask your freight forwarder or local authority rather than assuming one certificate covers everything. Is a certificate image in a brochure enough? No. Ask for a copy you can read, check the model number, the company name and the issuing body, and confirm it applies to the product you are ordering.
